Implant Therapy

A big, beautiful smile can help your confidence soar, but if you are like the 120 million Americans who are struggling with missing teeth, you may feel hesitant or too embarrassed to reveal your smile due to the gaps in it. Dental implants can help restore your confidence, giving you the ability to smile freely once again. We here at Implants & Periodontal Arts believe that dental implants can change your life for the better and are pleased to offer it to our patients as a permanent solution to unwanted tooth loss.

Benefits of Dental Implant Therapy

Losing your teeth is not just a problem that can plague your appearance; missing teeth can also negatively impair your quality of life and lead to further loss of tooth and even loss of bone matter in your jaw. When you lose a tooth, your remaining teeth may try to drift or shift into the open space, causing them to become tilted or loose. You may notice pain when biting or chewing, preventing you from enjoying your favorite foods. Dental implants help prevent these complications.

What Is A Dental Implant?

A dental implant is made up of three major parts: first, you have the implant or the titanium post. That is placed directly into your jawbone, underneath your gums. We will attach the abutment to the post, which acts as a connector from the post to the restoration. The restoration is the actual tooth itself and is sometimes called a “crown.” It attaches to the abutment to complete the implant.

Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

Dental implants are a great option for people who may have lost a tooth due to disease, infection, or trauma. Unlike bridges, which need nearby teeth for support, an implant can stand alone in your mouth. Also, unlike bridges, dentures, or partials, they are extremely natural in appearance and are very comfortable. While another dental prosthesis can fail or need replacement every few years, if you take good care of your dental implant (brushing and flossing it like you would your real teeth), it should last for the rest of your life.

What Dental Implants Can Do

  • Replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth.
  • Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture.
  • Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.

Am I A Dental Implant Candidate?

If you have been considering dental implants, we will work with you to ensure that you are a good candidate for this procedure and that you choose the best type of implant for your needs. Before we proceed, we may advise sinus augmentation or ridge modification to make sure your implant procedure is a success. Sinus augmentation can raise the sinus floor and bolster the bone in the area. If you are missing bone due to a deformity, we can build it up with a ridge modification. For our patients who are missing just one tooth, an implant and a crown should do the job.

Treatment

Dr. Chandan Walia will consult with you to determine where and how your implant should be placed. Depending on your specific condition and the type of implant chosen, Dr. Walia will create a treatment plan tailored to meet your needs.

Replacing Multiple Missing Teeth With An Implant Supported Bridge

If you have several missing teeth, you may be a good candidate for an implant-supported bridge. If you are missing an entire arch of teeth or even all of your teeth, you may be a good fit for an implant-supported denture or full bridge. Implants can help replace your teeth and your lost roots, making them an excellent choice for many people.

After Treatment

Your own teeth require conscientious at-home oral care and regular dental visits. Dental implants are like your own teeth and will require the same care. In order to keep your implant clean and plaque-free, brushing and flossing still apply.
